Be like an eagle
Monday, 08 March 2010 12:08

Fel_face_picDo not be like a parrot in life;  be like an eagle.  A parrot speaks but can't fly high, whereas an eagle is silent and has the willpower to touch the sky!

UNIVERSE.
A radar experiment aboard India's Chandrayaan-1 lunar spacecraft has identified thick deposits of water-ice near the Moon's north pole.  The NASA Mini-Sar experiment found more than 40 small craters containing water-ice.  But other compounds--such as hydrocarbons--are mixed up in lunar ice, according to new results from another Moon mission called LCROSS.  The findings were presented at a major planetary science conference in Texas.

WORLD. The Vancouver Winter Olympics drew to a spectacular close after 17 days of intense competition.  Canada topped the medal table, with 14 golds, seven silvers and five bronze medals, while the USA won the most medals with 37 overall.  Amy Williams clinched skeleton gold to win UK's only medal.  The closing ceremony began with the comedic emergence of the Olympic flame's fourth ice crystal leg, which had failed to appear during the opening ceremony.

Little things mean a lot
Monday, 08 March 2010 08:15

Emmanuel_TiponLittle things mean a lot to immigration authorities seeking to deport aliens

"Send me the warmth of a secret smile
To show me you haven't forgot
For now and forever, that's always and ever
Honey, little things mean a lot."

--Edith Lindeman and Carl Stutz, Sung by Kitty Kallen

To the romantics, "little things mean a lot." -- "Say I look nice when I'm not." "Give me your arm as we cross the street." "Give me your shoulder to cry on."

To immigration authorities, "little things mean a lot" too, but in a perverse way. They are always looking for little things to screw you -- your application for immigration benefits or your immigration status.

Richard, a lawful permanent resident, took several taxicab rides. He could not pay. He was convicted of Procuring a Vehicle with Intent to Defraud and Grand Larceny in violation of Virginia law.

THE HUSBAND

I received the article below through e-mail about 2 years ago but I can't recall anymore who sent me.

Fr Felix

A husband wakes up with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes and the first thing he sees is aspirin with a glass of water on the side table. He sits down and sees all his clothing all cleaned up and pressed. He looks around the room and sees all spotless, clean and in perfect order. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirin and notices a note on the table: "Honey, breakfast is on the table. I left early to go grocery shopping. Love yah!"

Totally shocked with the note, he goes to the kitchen and there is the hot breakfast and morning newspaper. His son is also there having his breakfast. He asks: "Son, what happened last night?"

Sexless marriage
Thursday, 04 March 2010 12:31

Emmanuel_TiponSexless marriage: Can you get a visa even if you admit it?

"Consummatum est." (It is consummated)
-- Jesus Christ's last words during his crucifixion.

An elderly Ilocano gentleman and his young wife appeared for a visa interview in San Francisco.
"Sir, was your marriage consummated?" the officer inquired.
"Anya ti cayat na nga saoen ti consummated?" (What does she mean by consummated), the man asked his lawyer.
"Ag yal ala kayo ken ni baket mo?" (Do you have sex with your wife), the lawyer whispered.
"Oh, yes, we consummate every night," the man gleefully replied.
"Sir, you can only consummate a marriage once," interjected the immigration officer.
"I don't know about you ma'am, but we do it every night," he bragged.
The lawyer elbowed the man to stop.

There is "nuptial imagery" in the Biblical word "consummation" which is the act by which a couple seals their marriage. "The death on the Cross is the act by which our Divine Bridegroom sealed His marriage covenant with His Bride, the Church." Pi Lamba Upsilon.

Blessed is he

UNIVERSE.
The first fully calibrated images from the European Space Agency's Smos satellite have now been released. The spacecraft's new pictures show swathes of Australia, the Amazon, and Scandinavia.  The maps record the amount of moisture held in soils and the quantity of salts dissolved in seawater.  The data is expected to have wide uses but should improve weather fore-casts and warnings of extreme events, such as floods.  Smos was launched on  November 2.

WORLD.
Latin American and Caribbean nations have agreed to set up a new regional body without the USA and Canada.  The new bloc would be an alternative to the Organization of American States, the main forum for regional affairs in the past 50 years.   Mexico has been hosting a regional summit in Cancun.  The OAS has been dogged by rifts between some members and the US over economic policy and trade, and criticized for promoting US interests.

Fondling a young woman's bosom--is it sexual abuse?
Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:42

Emmanuel_Tipon"Are you telling us that fondling the breasts of an 11-year old woman is not sexual abuse?" exclaimed the agitated lady judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals.

"Yes, your honor. It may be sexual assault but it is not sexual abuse," responded the lawyer (not Filipino, not Americano). He was representing a Filipino charged with fondling the breasts of an 11-year old girl and then preventing her from escaping when he was working as a convenience store clerk in Waikiki Beach in Hawaii in 1992. The Filipino's story is all over the papers in Hawaii. See Honolulu Advertiser, 02/07/ 2010.  He is said to be a church leader in Honolulu's Kalihi district. He has a family and children. He has reportedly been in the Federal Detention Center since 2007.

Was the lawyer making a distinction without a difference?

SEXUAL ABUSE vs. SEXUAL ASSAULT

The Filipino was charged, in addition to kidnapping for preventing the girl from escaping, with sexual assault in the third degree in violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes § 707-732(1)(b) which provides: (1) A person commits the offense of sexual assault in the third degree if: . . .(b) The person knowingly subjects to sexual contact another person who is less than fourteen years old or causes such a person to have sexual contact with the other person."  He pleaded nolo contendere (no contest).
